Just take me elsewhere!
Hello my dear reading beasts!
Welcome to my ninth “It’s a Wrap! Best & Worst of 2017” Post!
Oh those settings! Some books transport you to some awesome “elsewheres”…
The setting of a piece of literature is the time and place in which the story takes place. The definition of setting can also include social statuses, weather, historical period, and details about immediate surroundings. Settings can be real or fictional, or a combination of both real and fictional elements. Some settings are very specific (Wulfhall in Wiltshire England in 1500), while others are descriptive (a boat out on the ocean). Most pieces of literature include more—or many more—than one setting, either as the narrative progresses through time or to include points of view from more than one character. [source]
Great settings offer a real escapes from reality! Other places, other times. Some beautiful, some downright scary but all of them unforgettable! Actually, if you ask me, the darker and scarier a setting is the more unforgettable! Being the apocalyptic beast I’m there is no surprise most of my favorites are Dystopian/Apocalyptic
I really couldn’t think of a setting I didn’t like so here is the BEST “elsewheres” I read in 2017…
There is no better place like hell! Especially if it is hell on earth like this post-apocalyptic “poisoned surface of the Old World” HELL YEAH! But even before you get to dive into Hell you live in The Hive, a massive overpopulated, claustrophobic, disease-ridden, airship that is such Steampunk treat! An over-sized, more sophisticated version of La Minerve…
But the past can be very brutal and hellish too! Like The Ottoman Empire and Wallachia home of my adopted daughter Lada, so vast, grandiose and splendorous but so dark and dangerous…
And what could be darker and scarier than an alternative Europe after Hitler won WWII???
And WOW the Dust lands were just so good!!! I loved this post-apocalyptic wastelands SO MUCH!
What about you?
What are the best and worst “elsewheres” your books took you in 2017?
TELL ME EVERYTHING!
