Thor: Ragnarok

Oh man, I love Marvel movies so much!

About the Movie

In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk!

Review

These movies, these movies! You gotta love them!  They are so over the top flamboyant!

Remember Thor? The Norse Mythology’s hammer-wielding God? The one that is super tall and strong, but still manages to look clumsy and vulnerable?

Well this is Thor on steroids: taller, broader, funnier and choreographed with heavy metal soundtrack . A metrosexual Thor that walks New York City with a denim jacket and a hoodie, taking selfies with his fans like he was another Hollywood celebrity. 🙂

I just love Hollywood’s uncanny ability to americanize even the most “unamericanizable” of things like Norse Gods or far distant worlds in other galaxies for all of us American movies consumers 🙂 Like Thor yelling “OMG!” When he is surprised 🙂 I’m like… Who is he referring to?  His Dad? 🙂 It’s kinda funny but it’s great way for kids to learn about mythology.

And I liked the addition of the two badass female characters Hela and The Valkyrie.

And Of course my favorite was Hela, because I’m all about villains. 🙂

The acting is quire good and the special effects and animations are just flawless and grandiose and I like that the settings go beyond Asgard and Earth to other worlds.

BUT the best of all is that the movie is SO fantastically apocalyptic! Because that’s kinda what Ragnarök is:

In Norse mythology, Ragnarök is a series of future events, including a great battle, foretold to ultimately result in the death of a number of major figures (including the gods OdinThorTýrFreyrHeimdallr, and Loki), the occurrence of various natural disasters, and the subsequent submersion of the world in water. Afterward, the world will resurface anew and fertile, the surviving and returning gods will meet, and the world will be repopulated by two human survivors. [source]
