July 2017 – I’s a Wrap – my first draft is DONE! 34

A little Summerlypses!

Lotsa summery ocean-scented hugs for all beautiful beasts around the world, especially to my beautiful southern hemispharians surviving winter! Also for my lucky dwellers of the endless-summer equator,  even though I’m so jealous! 🙂

Sorry I was kinda MIA but July was an unexpected little Summerlypses. First… A project at work that landed on me despite all my attempts to dock it, and…. drum roll…   Camp NaNoWriMo!, which I won again! [and I’m having a little nervous breakdown because I want to tell you all about NOW and not below in my #AmWriting section.]

Since I didn’t post any Sunday updates, I hope you don’t mind an extra chatty wrap up for July, because I have tonsa exciting news… 🙂

Though July’s weather wasn’t that great for the beach, we did spend lotsa family time at the pool and at home relaxing.

AND Of course we are watching Game of Thrones! And here is where I ask you to forgive me and please bear with me as I rant about it. I have actually vented on some of my fav blogs, so I’ll just plagiarize one of my own comments and use it here.

SOOOOOO this little feminist, yours truly, is getting ROYALTY PISSED with GoT making Dany all bitchy so they can glorify Jon more when he becomes THE KING. Because ain’t no one fooling this feminist! I can smell this kinda things miles away! I can see it coming! This is where we are going. And we have enough kings thank you very much. And Dany was THE PERFECT ending of this story.

I know, I know Jon is so freaking adorable with his bedroom voice, and dreamy eyes and nice boy, underdog attitude. BUT. BUT. BUT. I WANT DANY TO WIN! That’s it. Period. She is an underdog too! Sold, abused, raped, etc etc.

Ahhhh that felt good! 🙂 Thank you for reading, my beloved beasts! 🙂

As it happens every time I’m too busy or stressed, in July I went down a rabbit hole. Or more like time-traveled down a wormhole.

I’m high-schooler again, reading tons of YA books and obsessed with anything stationary, journaling and planning related. I was already obsessed with my bullet journal but, now I decided it was going to be an art journal too. So, now I have a cart overflowing with arts supplies [“something atrocious” if you ask B-Dad] hanging all around like a Christmas tree and carry many more in my backpack [yup, not using a purse anymore. Now that I’m a high-schooler again I only use backpacks 😉 ]. If I really like this bullet/art journaling thingy I may set up a small studio at home.

I can’t wait to tell you all about this new productive procrastination! 🙂

I  posted eleven posts in July which is not bad at all considering small summerlypses.

So, I’m EXTREMELY proud of myself! Especially because I was also able to reply to comments, late, but… Better late than never, 🙂 [pats herself in the back] and visit SOME my favorite blogs. I plan to correct this atrocious situation by visiting ALL of them next week!

Not like the beast I was in spring but I’m still reading like a little beast. I completed my Goodreads challenge!

I think I told you the secret to be a Goodreads beast right? You gotta set up a ridiculously low goal and read lotsa children books 🙂

Since I have at least 10 more books to review that I haven’t marked as read in Goodreads, it seems I could actually read over a hundred books this year!

The secret of always feeling successful… is low expectations 🙂

I’m reading lotsa of YA reading and Magical Realism, which is was the theme I had picked for the summer…

And… I’m having a torrid love affair with Neil. Ours wasn’t an inst-love because I’m really NOT a high-schooler but  more of a slow burn romance.

We had a rocky start with The Ocean at the End of The Lane but, man, he did had me at American Gods

I’m loving it SO FREAKING MUCH! and I’m soooo gonna watch the show too. There is NO WAY I won’t.

Another success story… Since I banned myself from NetGalley, my ratio is at a historical 70% now!

Wow, I tell you I’m unstoppable 🙂  [and humble, so humble 😉 ] Imagine when I catch up with all my pending ARCs!

This is what I’ll be reading next, three of them are pending ARCs…

And these are the reviews coming up…

I won Camp NaNoWriMo again!

BUT… That is NOT all!

I wrote the last 20K of 110K words and

My first draft of Book 1 of Daughters of the Desert is FINALLY ready!!

I entered editland last Wednesday!

I’m so happy I can’t even!

I’m happy, but also terrified. Editland is one big, ruthless wasteland. So, drafted an Machiavellian plan to survive it and I can’t wait to share it with you all because… HELP! I need all your feedback!

Thank you all that visited my summery posts. Especially because I made summer about romance books but.. what kinda I say? This little apocalyptic beast does have a heart! 🙂 And soon summer will be over and this blog be back to the dark side where it belongs. 🙂

But enough of me!  What about you? How was your July?

Are you a responsibly adulting as you should be?

or are you back at high school? Maybe YOU ARE still in high school!

or elementary school?

do you also think that avoiding adulting the best thing ever??

Thank you for visiting!

Gosh, this post is PURE WIN! I’m so proud of you. I wish I could say that about my own goals xD you have some pretty awesome books read, especially the Neil theme. And congrats about NaNo! Oh, and NetGalley! I’ve actually not gone anywhere higher than 39% or 40%, I don’t think. I don’t see how I’ll be doing that anytime soon either xD I’ve been downloading less, but… well, not that much less xD

What a fun post, and I’m glad you completed NaNoWriMo. I did the event with my sixth novel in 2010, and then had fun with the editing and Beta reading, etc. Published that novel in 2014 (Interior Designs).

I had to laugh at your full shopping cart…

Enjoy your new week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

Congrats on CampNaNoWriMo! What a great accomplishment.
Yay on your net galley rating. It makes me twitching when I fall below 90%. I am such a control freak I just can’t handle it. I think I have 30 unrated books with a rating of 91%.
Hope you have a great week!

  • Annemieke

Yeay, congrats on winning camp nano! Haha, your love affair with Neil is going quite different than mine. I think I like American Gods the least out of his books I’ve read so far.

  • Barb (boxermommyreads)

Congrats on your writing and I can’t wait to read it! Sounds like you’ve had a great and eventful month. It seems so scary that kids are headed back to school already. And you have a point, it’s hard not to buy school supplies this time of year, even though I have no need for them. Can’t wait to hear how much you love Hell Divers II and I hope you find it as good as the first. The one good thing about summer coming to the end is FALL. My favorite time of year. And HALLOWEEN, and dark horror reads the whole month of October. OK, I’m getting ahead of myself.

Hey congrats on the first draft!! Wooh!! Lol about Game of Thrones- I hear you. I think they need to spend more time with Dany, developing her character, but with time winding down it’s probably not gonna happen. She needs to do more than just bitch at people lol. But they’re not writing her right, so yeah. 🙂

    Green buckets!

Okay the books. I want Follow Me Back and This Is Not The End, and maybe Delirium lol. I really liked One Of Us Was Lying, so you should too. Ha ha joking. 🙂

  • Olivia

Congrats on winning Camp, sadly July screwed me over completely 🙁 and now I’m behind with all my goals… also funny, how you love American Gods? Now, that’s one I just can’t stand to the point where I didn’t manage to finish it :/ Neil Gaiman, the author that divides haha! Happy week!

  • Lola

Sounds like you had a great July. Congrats on winning camp nano! I am not watching game of Thrones, so I can’t say anything about that. Your stationary cart looks fun. That’s neat you finished your Goodreads challenge, I am almost finished with mine, only 8 more books to go :). yay for reaching the 70%, I just reached the 70% as well as I am being more careful of requesting ARC’s now. I hope you’ll enjoy Flip and Grip, I thought it was a great series!

  • chucklesthescot

My only issue with Dany is that she won’t just let Jon be King in the North. Tyrion would though which is why I’m rooting for him! Jon needs to rule the North and I’d be ok with Dany ruling the South with Tyrion if she would just leave Jon to do his own thing!!! I was shopping today (urg, hate it!) and managed to get an ice cream maker and a Sodastream machine but couldn’t get the rest of my stuff as everything was out of stock. Argos, you really suck…!

  • Tanya @ Girl Plus Books

I’m loving this season of GoT. I definitely don’t see Jon overtaking Daenerys. She’s definitely suffering some losses, whether from hubris or bad luck or poor planning, but she is still such a strong contender for the throne. I swear, I want a Cersei/Daenerys showdown in the worst way. LOL Um, your art supply cart has the OCD in me hyperventilating. Ha! I’m dying to organize and weed out and make everything nice and neat. Possibly even alphabetized by supply type. LOL Go you on hitting your GoodReads goal! I haven’t met mine yet but I’m totally ahead of schedule and feeling good about it. #winning I requested This Is Not the End back in May and just got denied for it yesterday. I couldn’t even remember the book. I looked it up on GR and was like, “what in the hell possessed me to request that?” LOL So I’m not exactly bummed about the denial. Big, big congrats on winning Camp NaNo and even bigger congrats on completely your first draft. That’s simply huge! Go you! 🙂

    • Dragonfly @ Our Familiarium

yes! I’m dying to see a Danny vs Cersei SO BADLY!!! I think I’ll be reading this is not the end next week

hahahahahaha Tanya You made me laugh so hard with your comment about my art cart!!! I showed it to everyone at home!! they laughted too. Especially B-Dad because that’s that’s how he feels LOL

Beautiful Southern Hemispharian checking in here… I feel like I’ve been hibernating rather than surviving, but let’s hope the winter breaks soon!

I’m glad that you had such a successful Camp Nano! Awesome!

Yay for family time at the beach – that’s just the best! I’m skipping your GOTs rant as I’m trying to rewatch S5&6 before I binge watch this current season!

Your shopping cart looked awesome :0

Well done with the blogging – I would have totally flaked out if I’d been as busy as you!

I’m currently 4 books behind on my Goodreads challenge. I’ll be pulling out the novellas and children’s books soon. 🙂

American Gods – I must read!

Well done on getting your NG ratio up! I get all panicky when I go below 90… Which will happen again soon if I don’t get another book or two read soon! Eep.

I try to make a point to never be a responsible adult for too long… Avoiding adulting is marvelous! 😉

Happy August and I am going to see your editing post asap!

  • Laurie @ Bark's Book Nonsense

CONGRATS! This post is brimming with so much enthusiasm and I loved reading it. I hope you’re wrong about GoT but probably not 🙁 Of all your reads there I’ve only read “All the Ugly & Beautiful Things”. Man, did that book put me through the wringer. I can’t wait to read your thought.
