Six Months – 2.8 formulaic stars 19

I just need a second to unroll my eyes so I can write this review!

OK, I’m ready! So… UGH!!! Too formulaic!

2.8 formulaic starts!

About the Book

Six Months

April Frost is a compassionate young woman with a steady job and ambitious goals. But the harder she runs away from her past, the more it threatens to destroy her. When three strangers enter her life, April is forced to face her demons and it’s a battle she may not win.

Private investigators in the Breed world are men who take risks, and Reno Cole is no exception. As a Shifter, he’s expected to control his inner animal. But lately his wolf has been venturing dangerously close to the city, and he’s about to discover why. When Reno is reintroduced to a family friend, the attraction is immediate. April captivates him with her secretive eyes and resilient spirit. She’s also in trouble, and despite the fact she’s a human, Reno can’t turn his back on her.

April is caught between two worlds: One that threatens to bury her dreams and another that could fulfill them. Can she trust the wolf at her door and find the courage to overcome her demons?

Review

I’ll get all the bad out the way first. I loved the first book of this series Seven and I still love the general idea of this series but it was painful to finish this second book because….

I did not like the two MCs, April and Reno, a bit!

Reno was flatter than the middle ages earth. No backstory, no goals, no motivations, no dreams. All he wanted to do was to shift into a wolf and roam the woods. And he can’t even remember what he does when he is a wolf! So, really??? The only thing he likes to do is kinda pointless! And OMG his dialogues! SO STILTED!

AND besides being flat he is a control freak! He tells April that she can’t be around her best friend, Trevor, whom she has known FOR YEARS because… he is dangerous for her, because he is.. A WOLF!

Hummmm… Excuse me??

NO SIR CONTROL FREAK! NUH-HUH!

And course April is OK with that because…

April is just [sorry gotta unroll my eyes again] absolutely idiotic. As in… ZERO SELF-ESTEEM! Makes the stupidest decisions you can think of!

  • She steals from her only friend but can’t find the words to apologize.
  • Meets with a loan shark that already threatened to mutilate her [and worse] ALONE, at night.
  • After Reno made it clear he is interested in her AND he badass wolf she still doesn’t tell him she needs help BUT
  • She does accept when he takes her in a shopping spree to target to make over her trailer, because… again…
  • Zero brains, and zero self-esteem and ZERO DIGNITY?

Of course you can only expect insta-love from this two brainless creatures BUT there is ZERO CHEMISTRY!

Like sometimes the chemistry is so well written that you are… OK. OK. I get it. Lust/Love at first sight.

Reading the dialogues of this two empty shells was PAINFUL to unimaginable levels sooooo… Just try to picture the love scene!  There was SUPPOSED to be some BDSM going on [because remember Reno is this badass control freak? So, he could be happy if there is some control and domination involved, right?] BUT these two couldn’t manage to get this right either! LOL!

They had this excuse for a backstory that was not only like SUPER L. A. M. E. but disclosed in the worse absolute moment of the story, which is when they were trying to make all this BDSM work.

They were into it… No wait! NOT really, but wait… Yes maybe they were, nope! Kidding again, they were not… OH YES they are…. NOPE.THEY WERE.NOT!

Oh no, no, no!

So… I just wanted to get inside the book, be the Dom, and slap them around some! LOL! Just to see if something inside their skulls rattled a little. 🙂

Also, this book was SO annoyingly formulaic. I understand there is a romance formula. And the reason for this formula to exist is because IT WORKS. There is an appeal in the whole “damsel in distress and the hero that save her” thingy. BUT omg… Why? WHY? WHYYYYY?? Did ALL the tropes had to be here??

Why she had to be ALL the clichés… 1) poor and deep in debt, 3) alone [no family and no friends], 4) almost a virgin, 5) submissive, 6) insecure, 7) super girly [the only thing she thinks about, besides Reno’s abs, is fashion],

Why did he have to be ALL the clichés… 1) wealthy 2) part of a big supportive family and community, 3) Over 6’ tall, muscular, and unbelievably strong, 4) mysterious, 5) brooding, 4) controlling, 6) aviator silver sun glasses, dressed in black, combat boots and of course 7) he carries a gun, because of OF COURSE 8) he is into some kind of law enforcement job [he is a PI] EVEN THOUGH HE DIDN’T WORK IN ONE SINGLE CASE  9) he pulls the gun slightest provocation, like a guy using foul language in front of April.

Huh? Hello? No. NUH-HUH Freak!

Ok. sooooo why did I finish and would like to read the rest of the series???

  • Danika can definitely write!
  • She is a good storyteller!
  • She usually creates great, down to earth, likable, sassy, smart characters [maybe someone else wrote this book for her???]
  • Danika also writes great couples, friends and family dynamics. Funny she still did a good job with the secondary characters. I DON’T UNDERSTAND.

And I just left the best for last..

TREVOR!!!

I’m in love with Trevor [April BFF]. He is gay, so he won’t ever reciprocate my love but I love him anyway. Trevor was everything Reno wasn’t! Trevor… thank you for holding my hand and help me finish this book. Hope to see you soon again. Hope you get your own book!
