About the book
Wolf by Wolf
[Public Library Audio Book]
The year is 1956, and the Axis powers of the Third Reich and Imperial Japan rule. To commemorate their Great Victory, Hitler and Emperor Hirohito host the Axis Tour: an annual motorcycle race across their conjoined continents. The victor is awarded an audience with the highly reclusive Adolf Hitler at the Victor’s Ball in Tokyo.
Yael, a former death camp prisoner, has witnessed too much suffering, and the five wolves tattooed on her arm are a constant reminder of the loved ones she lost. The resistance has given Yael one goal: Win the race and kill Hitler. A survivor of painful human experimentation, Yael has the power to skinshift and must complete her mission by impersonating last year’s only female racer, Adele Wolfe. This deception becomes more difficult when Felix, Adele twin’s brother, and Luka, her former love interest, enter the race and watch Yael’s every move.
But as Yael grows closer to the other competitors, can she bring herself to be as ruthless as she needs to be to avoid discovery and complete her mission?
From the author of The Walled City comes a fast-paced and innovative novel that will leave you breathless.
Holy Shshhhh what a class act this book has been! How LORDLY!!! How unparalleled!
This book is the most stunning bookish thing that I have encountered in a while!
How completely overcome with adoration I am right now. I’m humbled. I’m even a little sad. How could I EVER find another historical fantasy book like this one? Ever.
This book just about ruined me for any other historical fantasy ever!
Holy Mistresses of Writers Ryan, girl, this was unbelievable!
HOW ON EARTH DID YOU COME AROUND TO WRITE SOMETHING LIKE THIS???
And Christa Lewis, the narrator. As if this book wasn’t otherworldly enough! She does such a great job with the tension and all the accents.
How could I ever write the review this book deserves?? Ok, I’ll try…
So the US refused to enter WWII therefore, the Axis of Evil won the war and Hitler is the most powerful man on earth. 😳
IS THIS A HORROR BOOK?
Yale is a survivor of the holocaust, now in the Jewish resistance fueled by hatred and revenge. She has five wolves tattooed on her arm, and each one has a meaning from when she was at the concentration camp and the years that followed.
AND I JUST LOVE HOW BEAUTIFULLY METAPHORIC THESE WOLVES ARE!
The book is almost equally divided between war and post-war time. As Yael carries on her mission to kill Hitler, she flashbacks to of each of the five wolves’s stories, which made her what she is today.
AND WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE HOLOCAUST
So these stories are just SO heart-wrenching!
And Yael’s voice is so awesomely blunt and perfect to take you back to the horror of a WWII concentration camp.
OMG! YAEL’S VOICE IS DOWNRIGHT ASTOUNDING!
[I haven’t liked a MC’s voice this much since Darrow in Red Rising ]
And is there anything more precious than a girl surviving a concentration camp and wanting to take down the Führer??? No, I think not!
So freaking gripping! Will she pull this off? Will she win the race??? Will she get close enough to the Führer??? Will she free the world his domination ???
Loved it!! ❤❤❤
Holocaust stories are very dear to me. I read as many as I can, even though they leave me immensely sad. Because that’s life. The holocaust really happened and we cannot forget!
I’m becoming such a huge fan of historical fantasy! I just love the speculation and the the “WHAT IF”s that remind us of all the possible terrible outcomes had other choices been made!
Hope you enjoy by Goodreads updates…
