Because high school is so damn scary!
Wow this book shook me to the core!
Lauren knows how to write emotions! And one of the best metaphorical writing and character’s arc I’ve seen in a while!
About the book
Before I Fall
With this stunning debut novel, New York Times bestselling author Lauren Oliver emerged as one of today’s foremost authors of young adult fiction. Like Jay Asher’s Thirteen Reasons Why and Gayle Forman’s If I Stay, Before I Fall raises thought-provoking questions about love, death, and how one person’s life can affect so many others.
For popular high school senior Samantha Kingston, February 12—”Cupid Day”—should be one big party, a day of valentines and roses and the privileges that come with being at the top of the social pyramid. And it is…until she dies in a terrible accident that night.
However, she still wakes up the next morning. In fact, Sam lives the last day of her life seven times, until she realizes that by making even the slightest changes, she may hold more power than she ever imagined.
Named to numerous state reading lists, this novel was also recognized as a Best Book of the Year by Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, The Daily Beast, NPR, and Publishers Weekly. It has been optioned for film by Fox 2000 Pictures.
Supports the Common Core State Standards.
I was so excited about this book because of all the hype and the movie…. Well.. It exceeded every expectation I had and more! I walked around with my earphones on for two days until I finished the book. That’s how unputdownable it was!
The first pages I was like… Huh? I’m not gonna be able to finish this book!
I was more than just slightly annoyed to be in the mind of Sam, this OH SO SHALLOW High School Beta Queen Bee [not quite the Alpha Supreme Queen Bee, but up there high in the hierarchy]. You live her last day over and over again with her and, at first, that day was like a poster day of everything that is insufferable about high school!
And OMG… Sam thinks A LOT. Her inner monologue is intense and endless! And oh so so so very shallow!
And all her friends are even shallower and they all talk A LOT too! Holy Craziness!!!
And this was one of those books I told you about that was just phenomenal as audio book, so Sarah Drew does such a great job making all these teenager voices that I was like…
But of course I kept
reading listening! I knew the character arc was going to be captivating because… HELLO! She is dead!!! And she has to relive her last day over and over again so I could tell at the end she was going to be a totally different person after that ordeal. That, or I was going some how get in the book AND KILL HER AGAIN!
So there I was… hooked, dying to know about the next choices she was going to make.
And I this book was SO WICKED GOOD! I got to know and connect not only with Sam but all her insufferable friends and kinda of even liked them and oh lord… the gripping suspense, and the end…
Because that’s how much of a under-a-rock-dweller I am, I had not heard about Lauren until now. Then I learned of the many best sellers she has and I want to read them ALL.
ALL OF THEM PLEASE!
